29 Meetup Groups match “Books and Drinks” near San Francisco, CA
Do you like reading books that will further your personal or professional development? Do you like meeting new people and having a casual discussion over common interests? This is a group for anyone interested in reading books like Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In, Reid Hoffman's Startup of You, or Jim Collins' Good to Great; then getting together, discussing, and selecting the next book. While I've always done this on my own, I feel like it could really enhance the experience to do it with others. Whe …
How does the book swap work? Bring a book of your choice that you are willing to give away. If you see a book you like, take it. Bring a few, take a few.. And feel free to grab a drink or two as well, and maybe a little something to nosh on. It's an informal and fun event. Hope to see you there.

So what's the worst part of most book groups? Being forced to read a book you simply don't want to read. And what's the best part: getting all those great book recommendations! In this meet up, we're going to dispense with the book *reading* and go straight to the recommending ... and we'll do it with a game I call the "Book Auction". Each participant brings 2 of their favorite books (1 fiction, 1 non-fiction) -- these can be books off your shelf, or new purchases from a store. At the door, ever …
Back by popular demand... First, thanks for taking the first step in joining a special group of ladies who love to read, chat, over enjoy a glass of wine. I initially started this group two years ago because I am a book junkie who was looking to join a book club in the area and found none. After a year on Facebook, I decided it was time to take the group back were it all started. We read mostly contemporary lit, but do mix it up every so often with a classic. This is the book club for anyone who …
I am new to Berkeley via San Diego (via Bay Area, via Seattle, via Philadelphia, via Santa Barbara :) and looking to meet some new girlfriends. I started and was a member of a book club in San Diego and had a blast. We actually had a great group of girls who ended up being friends- reading, going out, running races, together, etc! I'd like to recreate something similar here in Berkeley/Oakland! This group is for ladies only (sorry boys) in their mid 20s/mid 30s (roughly!) who are looking to meet …

Hi there fellow 40-somethings, I created this group when I first moved to Marin County from Southern California and it was a great way to make friends. Now I'm in Berkeley and wanted to start one here. The name of the group speaks for itself, I don't stick with a theme of books to read; one month we may read a mystery, another month a classic, the next...well, you get the idea! We'll have one scheduled book club meeting each month and I'll also schedule meetups in between to attend a literature …
Join us for discussions of non-fiction titles! Preference is for shorter books 350 pages or less, but all are welcome suggestions.

So this year we are celebrating 60 years with 007. Sure, Skyfall is a great movie, but what about the books? We'll be reading Ian Fleming's books starting with Casino Royale. Sure we'll talk about the movies: George Lazenby et al but it'll be fun to actually read the original intents. The locales of these books run the gamut from Las Vegas to London to Istanbul to Jamaica to Mahe Island. Hopefully we can find bars/restaurants that correspond to the locales and rap.
This is group is for thirty-something women who want to make new girlfriends and get together for activities in the San Francisco area. Late 20s to late 30s welcome! Let's meet for music, drinks, hikes, or anything else that sounds fun. The events will be small to encourage getting to know each other better and make friendships both at events and outside of Meetup.

Small groups will get together to read aloud to one another and appreciate the written and spoken word (and simply have a good time). Each person brings a short selection (fiction, poetry, nonfiction, whatever). Folks also bring drink and nibbles to share. Fancy or not. Meetings will vary; formats will evolve. My small kitchen will be the setting for some events; perhaps others will volunteer their kitchens as well. We may also decide to have thematic events, such as reading appropriate selectio …
I'm hoping to combine two things that I love: Literature and discussion about literature that takes place in a relaxed cafe atmosphere (nothing too fancy here & drinking is optional). A nice way to meet other literature lovers and smart conversationalists. Come and join the fun and expand your horizons a bit when it comes to literature! I need motivation at times to complete my reading list and maybe you do too? I'm a fan of classic literature (think Aeschylus, Dostoyevsky, Mann, Balzac, Cervant …

Meet other apocalypse sci fi lovers over drinks at various cozy bars in the city! Each month we will read a book with an apocalyptic setting picked by either the organizer or voted upon by members. P.S. Some people have asked about what the 1.00 fee is/how is it used.... Most meetup events charge a low fee because meetup costs to start a group. (when an organizer makes a group they have to pay before it is posted. This fee helps reimburse me for the money I paid, as well as cutting down on …
This diverse group meets in the city of San Francisco about once a month. We welcome suggestions and encourage voting about what types of books to read and what types of venues to drink in. (If you decide to join, please check out the polls and vote!) (Polls can be found under the "More" tab at the top, just below our Group Name.) We are very informal, meaning you are encouraged to come to a meetup even if you haven't finished the book, or haven't started it! It's Booze first and Books second, s …

Have you ever heard of Naked Girls Reading? It’s a group of ladies who enjoy giving readings of various works to a large audience au naturel. The group originated in Chicago two years ago when the founder’s husband caught his naked wife lying in repose focused intently on her book. At that moment, both agreed that there was something amazingly powerful about reading sans culottes. As a PhD literature grad student and a nudist, I have been doing this for years! And now, I think it’s the perfect t …

40's+ baby boomers or others who just love to enjoy a good time, sing or play 50's, 60's, 70's music. Bring your guitar, bongos, tambourine or just your 'shower only' voice that will blend in perfectly with everyone else's. We provide song books for you to pick your favorites. This is not for original compositions or performers. Think of it as kind of live karaoke. Please be prepared to bring something good to eat for 8-10 people. Preferably vegetarian. We will provide paper goods so there will …

Meet other sushi and sake addicts in your area! We'll try different sushi places around the peninsula, attack the fish, drink up some sake, and then rattle our blah blah of what we think about the restaurant - or life in general.... The event limit is 15 people (occasionally more if venue capacity allows), depending on the place, we might have to sit in separate tables (hardly any sushi place can accommodate 15 people in one table). We order a few things and share with our table mates. I will s …

Join us on a fun film project! Its a party we serve free food and drinks at every meet up! Our way of saying thanks for your interest in our project. As a response to challenged books listed in the Huffington Post, like Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, along with Twilight, Captain Underpants, Harry Potter and many others, we have decided to produce a documentary/drama on HD video to address banned books in U.S. This film project will demonstrate how books become challenged and eventually banned …

Having recently studied Turkish in Istanbul, I would like to continue my studies. Turkish members wishing to learn a bit of english are welcome to attend to help us learn a bit of Turkish. My thoughts are to keep this group under 10-12 people. Members should expect to meet at least once a week, develop and lead a lesson once every two months, do the homework, grade other members' homework, drink chai, etc. I'm hoping to meet at a turkish restaurant at 6th ave and clement in SF once or twice a we …

Well, i like to get dinner and want to meet people. being the creative type i am i thought "wait a minute, i could do both!" Then i thought more about it and figured that having 3 couples would be a good and small number yet still big enough to keep truly awkward events from occurring. with only 2 couples you could end up with a shitty dice roll but with 3 the odds are at least that the other couple will be cool. now i haven't totally explained to my girl what im doing so and im not sure what sh …
This group is for anyone interested in learning Indian cooking, both meat or vegetarian dishes i.e. proteins, veggies or starch. All cooking skills levels are welcome as there will be classes for all levels - the first time cook or advanced chef.
