The Breakdown: We read good books. We're looking for other intellectually curious, like-minded 20somethings (a vague guideline) in Astoria (another vague guideline) to read them with us, share some food, drink, and sweet convo. The Criteria For Choosing Said Good Books: Magical language (with a healthy dash of magical realism), fresh voices (love a debut) irreverent to painfully relevant, growing up, growing old, dying, coming back to life, urban culture to Southern idyllicy, savory books that y …
I decided to start the group because I cannot find a book club that assigns books that are more to my liking. So I am hoping to find other girls who will enjoy the type of books I love to read. I read both fiction and non fiction, but my main interest is stories that touch upon specific things: feminism, sexuality, mental health, etc. So join my group if you are looking to stay local in Brooklyn, like to drink and like to read.
If you love books, bars, and meeting people from the neighborhood, please join me in starting a new UES book club! The Upper East Side Book and Pub Club will meet every six weeks, have fun and lively discussions about a variety of books (voted in by members), and enjoy and support the local pubs. Both women and men alike are welcome, but you have to live between 59th & 96th Street, 5th Ave & East End. The first Meetup will get things rolling- nail down the first couple of books, collect suggesti …

A book group for people in Sunnyside and Woodside, Queens (or those who want to come here). Any age, any gender, is welcome. This is a group for people who want to meet others every month or two to talk about a book we've all read (or mostly read. We know, sometimes you hate a book and you just can't finish it. Come tell us how much you hated it and why!), and get to know people near you.
I want to combine 2 of my interests - reading and wine - so am hoping to start a book club that will meet in our local wine bar once a month. Open to anyone with similar interests that is looking more to enjoy good books, good company and good wine than get too serious about what we're reading!

They saying goes, "If you want to hide something from a Black person, put it in a book". Well this group's aim to dispel that stereotype and take in as much literary information as possible. This group will read books of all genres and meet up on a monthly basis to discuss the current reading selection. Each book will be chosen by a member of the group to enable the group to read books of everyones taste.

Inspired by a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, about a long-running reading group in which the members read books aloud -- 35 or so pages a meeting -- they've read Dickens, Milton, Tolstoy, Faulkner, the Brontes, Eliot, Austen. In addition to the book we're reading (our first is The Transit of Venus), we've begun meetings by reading other short pieces or poems.

All book lovers in Sunnyside/Woodside/LIC are welcome to join a local book club. The group will meet in various apartments and everyone should feel free to bring a snack for the group.
Remember when you were a kid and comics were awesome? Well they still are. Actually, they're much better now. If you don't already know that then you need to come to the next Meetup. We're going to use this group to explore all genres for comics, trade paperbacks, and graphic novels and then discuss them over a few drinks.

This book club will cover great literary works such as Hemingway, Dickens, Shelley, Bronte, Milton, to more recent authors like...humm...let me think--okay---let's face it, English degree = reading lots of dead authors. But really, let's read everything worth reading. :) This group is aimed at mid-twenties to mid-thirties individuals who like to get together over drinks or a meal and have critical discussions about books. Please read on to find out how we run our book club! Each Meet Up will r …

I started this group because throughout the years girls tend to loose touch. Some get married and move away and some you just don't relate to anymore. This group isn't to meet girlfriends who just want to go and party, this group is to meet girlfriends who you can call to go shopping with, have a spa day with, call for the "girl perspective. This group is for younger women (21-30) single, married, involved, or mommy's who just want to be able to have some girl time back in their lives. I look a …
Originally this group was centered on horror but as time went on it seemed right to include both mystery and science fiction. There's this misconception that horror movies are only effective if they have a certain level of violence or gore, similar to what you might find with the Saw franchise. Films such as the Blair Witch Project, The Others and Paranormal Activity however, prove otherwise. When the audience has to conjure their own interpretation to an event based on what's implied or not vis …

This Meetup Group is for people with an interest in all-things-science to get together, and not just on Saturdays. Maybe you often find yourself starting to tell a science-related story at a party, only to trail off awkwardly when you realize that you're not as clear on the details as you thought. Or your friends are hinting that they'd really rather not hear about Planet Earth anymore. Quite possibly, while others reminisce about Saturday morning cartoons, you fondly recall watching Mr. Wiza …

The purpose of this group is for the New York professional black women to come together, meet & greet and embrace our new midlife. You should join if you're in your fabulous mid- forties and into the mid-late fabulous fifties: midlife doesn't always equate to crisis. Note: over 40s are welcome too. This is a time for reflection and thankfulness as we grow older very gracefully. Let's share our stories and experiences over dinner, gathering at a book store or any other social venue. We are tr …
Whether you travel by dragon, X-wing, Floo Powder , Stargate, rabbit hole, DeLorean, magic carpet, TARDIS, Oceanic Airlines…or NYC subway...this meetup is for you. You don’t have to be a huge fan of sci fi and fantasy to come. You don’t have to be the person who has your DVR permanently set to the Syfy Channel, speak fluent Klingon, or ha …
